After the upcoming meeting of the two leaders, some important announcements will be made towards normalizing bilateral relations.
It is possible to start direct flights between India and China and restore the supply of rare metals from China to India as well as announce some measures to reduce the trade deficit. Diplomatic sources said that the duration of the meeting will be short, but its agenda is quite comprehensive.
In view of the current tension in India-US relations due to President Trump's tariff policy, the whole world will be watching this meeting of Modi and Jinping. PM Modi will reach China on a two-day visit on August 31 after his visit to Japan. On August 31, in the late evening, he will attend the dinner organized for the 25th summit of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO). The SCO summit will be held on September 1.
In view of the current global uncertainty and Trump's policy of ignoring the interests of other countries, China has tried to make this annual meeting of the SCO special this time. Apart from the 10 member countries of the SCO, heads of 13 more countries and 10 international agencies have been invited. In a way, the heads of all the ASEAN countries and Central Asian countries are going to gather here.
Apart from President Vladimir Putin, Turkish President Recep Erdogan, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, and heads of 23 countries like Nepal, Pakistan, Belarus, Malaysia, Indonesia, Egypt, Armenia, Azerbaijan, and Mongolia will be present here. PM Modi will have bilateral meetings with Russian President Putin and leaders of many other countries.
Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri said, "India will try its best to ensure that terrorism is condemned in very strong words in the joint declaration to be issued after the SCO meeting. All forms of terrorism, including cross-border terrorism, were condemned in the SCO meeting led by India in the year 2023. The SCO was established against the risks of terrorism, separatism, and radicalism, although the challenges of all these still remain.''
Similarly, the information received from China makes it clear that the government there is trying to present the SCO meeting as a big event on the global stage. China is trying to show that when a power like America has created problems for many countries of the world, it is gathering developing countries on the platform of SCO and creating harmony among them.
